Opera Lafayette has been introducing early opera to youth in middle and high schools for many years. Most recently, we have partnered with Bowie High School, Paul Public Charter School, and Woodrow Wilson High School. We work with each school to design a unique program based on the focus of the teacher and the class curriculum. Past programs have been designed around female empowerment for our production of Gaveaux’s Léonore, ou L’Amour conjugal, the European perspective of the American Indian in the 1800s and its impact on Opera Lafayette’s production of Rameau’s Les Sauvages, and encouraging children to take a stand against bullies building on the Bible’s iconic story featured in Stradella’s La Susanna. If you are interested in presenting an in-school program, please email Ersian François, Artist Services and Community Engagement Manager.
